This online course teaches the skills and knowledge required to operate honey extraction equipment safely and to extract honey fit for human consumption.

Throughout the seven (7) modules in this course, you will learn about:

  • components of a quality assurance program
  • safe food handling regulations and practices
  • honey quality requirements
  • identification and reporting of food hazards in beekeeping operations
  • how to extract, handle and store honey using workplace quality assurance processes to minimise risks to food safety
  • measuring the moisture content of honey
  • creating quality records that demonstrate safe food handling practices.

  • Module 3 – Prepare to extract honey
  • Module 4 – Extract honey
  • Module 5 – Handle extracted honey
  • Module 6 – Honey comb and wax
  • Module 7 is your workplace project: You will need to collect evidence as you conduct an extraction through images  (photo or video) and the completion of various records. Each individual assessment task will detail the evidence you will need to collect and submit. There are nine (9) assessment tasks.

  • This course is delivered online through our online learning platform Canvas.
