About this course

Do you know your grasses from your legumes? Of course you do. But do you know how they affect each other? Or how to maximise the benefit of each to your enterprise? This four-hour course will get you started on understanding your pastures and how you can do a better job managing them.

The course aims to develop knowledge and skills in:
  • exploring the wide role of pastures in the animal system and landscape, including feed, ground cover and biodiversity
  • pasture management, including matching pastures to landscapes and how feed gaps affect farm management.

Details

On successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • identify features of different pastures and fodder crops, including seasonal growth patterns of grasses and legumes
  • select pasture species that match landscape and soil fertility conditions.

  • This course involves a mix of indoor and in paddock components, including naturalised to highly improved pasture.
  • Participants will identify and explore pasture management issues.
