This course is delivered by experienced Melliponists. The course is designed to inform and enable those who want to gain or increase their knowledge and skills. The emphasis will be on how to obtain, keep and reproduce (“split”) a colony of Native stingless bees.
The NSW AgGuide “Australian Native Bees” is included in the total course fee of $250.00.
The course is a mix of theory presented by Melliponists via PowerPoint, discussion and resources. Practical aspects include opening a Native stingless bee box, tasting of “Sugar Bag” (Native stingless bee “honey”) and comparing different box types.
There are no entry requirements.
This one-day course is non-accredited.
Following the one-day course, an optional online component will be offered to those with a Native bee colony. If you successfully complete both the one-day face to face and the online component, you will attain the Unit of Competency from AHCNRM301 – Establish an Australian native stingless bee colony.

Manage pest and disease in honeybees - online
This online course provides beekeepers with the skills to recognise, monitor and manage the impact of pests and diseases on honey bee colonies, and has been developed to align with two units of competency from the Certificate III in Beekeeping AHC31818
Quality assurance for honey extraction
This online course teaches the skills and knowledge required to operate honey extraction equipment safely and to extract honey fit for human consumption.
Cotton pest management
Control pests in cotton. From aphids to whiteflies, and helicoverpa to spider mites and mirids, Tocal’s Cotton Pest Management training will help you get on top of the problem.
Artificial insemination of bees
For experienced bee breeders and researchers, this two-day course will help raise your skill level both in collecting semen and artificially inseminating queen bees.
Beginning in bees
Get a basic knowledge of beekeeping in this two-day introductory course run by Tocal College. It’s the ideal start to help you manipulate bee hives, carry out general management, and understand how a bee colony works.
