About this course

Have proven experience with tractors and want to learn to operate a tractor and chaser bin to safely provide support in a harvest situation? Grain harvest workers need to safely operate and maintain sophisticated machinery and equipment while maintaining high standards of product hygiene. The 2-day Harvest Operations course, is aimed at participants who already possess proven tractor skills and who would like further training in managing a tractor & chaser bin & other relevant machinery in a harvest situation.

The course aims to develop knowledge and skills in:
  • the processes of grain harvest from the field to bulk storage
  • basic operational principles of a combine harvester, grain cartage, handling and storage
  • introduction to WHS on farm.

  • Training in Tractor/Chaser bin operation in conjunction with Combine Harvester under field conditions.
  • Basic awareness training in safe operation of grain handling equipment such as “chaser bins”, augers, conveyors, elevators etc
  • Overview of the processes of grain harvest from the field to bulk storage
  • Introduction to the basic operational principles of a combine harvester, grain cartage, handling and storage.
  • Introduction to WHS and the hazards and risks relating to grain harvest operations. Fire safety (temperature, wind etc), sun safety, hydration
  • Grain handling using tractor powered equipment, storage, and handling of grain
  • Daily service and maintenance; basics of machine cleaning
  • Trailed implement and PTO attachment
  • Machinery maintenance, cleaning and hygiene issues when moving between fields and farms
  • Effective cleaning methods and practices

  • This course is delivered using both indoor and outdoor instruction.

You should already have experience with tractors.
