This is almost certainly a misidentification of Scolypopa australis which remains as the only ricaniid recorded in New Zealand. The note does provide a measure of the likely timing of the species' introduction to New Zealand from Australia. |

| Scolypopa australis (Walker) Pochazia australis Walker 1851: 430 Flatoides australis Walker 1858a: 102, synonymised by Melichar 1898: 278 Scolypopa urbana Stål 1859: 325, synonymised by Melichar 1898: 278 Scolypopa australis (Walker), Melichar 1898: 278
Note: This species builds up into huge populations on passion vines and kiwifruit vines causing heavy deposits of "honeydew". This leads to the growth of sooty moulds which impair the marketability of the fruit. |
